Chapter Eleven

The experience was kind of rougher than Jude liked. He tried to walk normally back to his house, though the missing of Atticus’ cock was apparent. By the time he got there, Tray was in a rotten mood.

“We had plans to go shopping – you were gone for a while.”

“I apologize,” Jude said, sore and tired. “It was not my intention to...be gone so long.” Jude hoped he didn't ruin his chances of getting a pool.

“I was gonna call the police – that girl is weird.”

“Oh...yeah, a little bit.” Right, he was supposed to be with someone else… Jude felt like just coming out, but then again he had no idea how Tray would react. “Look, I'm really sorry – the day's still young...we can still go shopping.”

Tray looked up at Jude like he had something real important to say. “You know how short life is, son?” Tray held his hand out so his palm faced the ceiling. “It'll run through your fingers like water if you're not careful. You don't have to...tiptoe around me. If there's something going on, you can tell me.”

Jude stayed silent.

“Don't waste your time being sneaky, lying...if we're going to spend all summer togeth...”

“I'm gay.” The words just flew out of his mouth and Jude as amazed at how relieved he felt afterward.

Tray made a funny face and nodded. He started fidgeting with things on the table. It was obvious he was uncomfortable and yet trying to be open minded.

“Okay – is that...” he tossed his hand out expressively. “What you wanted to talk to Margaret about?”

“Yes,” Jude quickly said before biting his lip.

“Okay, I mean I know I ain't exactly wavin' a rainbow flag in the air or nuttin’ like that, but I'm cool with it.” Then he smiled, lovingly. “I'm glad you told me.”

Jude smiled and felt so much better now – at least when it came to that. Physically, he was worn out.

“Now, brush your hair and let's go get this pool before the stores close,” Tray said.
